Kinderlee Mill Complex – Cheshire

KINDERLEE MILL COMPLEX – CHISWORTH, NEAR STOCKPORT, CHESHIRE

Project – Renovation of existing Mill, New 60 unit Apartment Block and 30 Town Houses
Stone Types – New Derbyshire Sandstone and Spanish blue slate
Products – Vintage Weathered walling, Weathered masonry and Spanish blue slate

The Challenge – The existing mill was originally built in the mid 1800’s. The Peak district local authority instructed the client to source a natural stone walling material which not only complement the existing mill but also fit into the leafy valley of Chisworth.

The Solution – After submitting over a dozen different types of walling stone, Traditional Stone’s Vintage weathered walling was selected. This unique new sawn bedded walling stone has a water based masonry dye applied to the face of the stone, it is then put through a tumbling process which distresses the arrises of the stone to give it worn reclaimed aesthetics.

The natural stone masonry had the same water based dye applied to the heads and cills to blend in perfectly with the walling stone.

The order consisted of over 2000m2 of walling stone, over 100 masonry window surrounds and 35,000 Spanish blue slates.

The timber frame development gave scope to use bespoke course heights to fit in with the surroundings, the walling stone has sawn beds and new stone tolerances, this aided speed of build and greatly reduced labour costs.

New-Office-Development-4

New Office Development – Bingley, West Yorkshire

NEW OFFICE DEVELOPMENT – BINGLEY, WEST YORKSHIRE

Project – New Office Units
Stone Types – Darney Sandstone, Northumberland
Products -Pitched Face Walling, Copings and Masonry

The Challenge – Halton Homes were appointed by the client to build the next phase of this office complex using the same material as the previous phases.

The Solution – Traditional Stone’s project consultant met with the contractor on site to discuss the project and identified the existing stone.

The stone on the first phase was extracted from a quarry in Northumberland, the client had originally been advised by various stone suppliers that the quarry had stopped extracting the Darney sandstone and an alternative would need to be sourced.

Our experienced project consultant sourced the stone from the same quarry and managed to supply the exact same products as the first phase, which ensured the new office units matched the existing complex.

The project presented a number of challenges including the production of the radius corduroy paving the issue was generating the raised pattern in line with the curve of the stone. This was overcome by the use of a CNC profiling machine.
